Missed exams and impaired exam performance

The information in this page applies to all students who miss an examination in Mathematics or Statistics, or whose performance in such an exam is impaired.

  • Special consideration may be granted if an illness, injury or misadventure beyond your control prevents or affects your preparation or performance in an exam.
  • Special arrangements may be granted if an exam conficts with an essential commitment.

The University's special consideration process is governed by Section 14 of the Coursework Policy and the Assessment Procedures.

Applications for special consideration and special arrangements are managed by the University's Student Administration Services.

Please read the information below carefully.

Information for students who miss an exam

  • If serious illness or misadventure makes it impossible for you to attend an exam then you are entitled to apply for special consideration. You can apply online: see http://sydney.edu.au/current_students/special_consideration/apply.shtml for the instructions.

    Note that applications must be submitted by 11.59pm on the third working day after the sitting date of the exam.

  • If you are unable to attend an exam due to an essential commitment (as defined in the policy) then you may apply for special arrangements to be made. Again see http://sydney.edu.au/current_students/special_consideration/apply.shtml for the instructions.

    Note that applications for special arrangements must be submitted within fourteen days from the publication of the examination timetable (or, if the commitment is not known then, by the third working day after the commitment is known).

  • Students who are granted a replacement exam will receive notification from Student Administration Services, and a result of '0 RI'.

Information for students whose exam performance is impaired

  • Should you consider that your performance in an exam is impaired due to illness or misadventure, then you are entitled to request special consideration. See http://sydney.edu.au/current_students/special_consideration/apply.shtml for the application instructions.
  • Note: if you sat the exam then applied for special consideration due to impaired performance and you are granted a replacement exam, the exam on which the special consideration was sought will not be marked.

  • Students who are granted a replacement exam will receive notification from Student Administration Services, and a result of '0 RI'.
