According to Shanghai Ranking, the University of Sydney is placed first in Australia in the Mathematics category. Overall, University of Sydney Mathematics is rated among the 51 – 75 best in the world. See the full rating here.

Algebraic Geometry Workshop Sydney

Geordie Williamson receives the 2024 Max Planck-Humboldt Research Award
This grant from the Max Planck Society and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation recognizes the fundamental work of SMRI director Professor Geordie Williamson in the use of artificial intelligence in theoretical mathematics. See the Max Planck Society announcement for further details.
National Intelligence and Security research grant
Nalini Joshi and Tomas Lasic Latimer have been awarded $746,424 from the Office of National Intelligence for their research project "Extending Elliptic Curve Cryptography". See the funding announcements web page for further information.
Frontiers of Science award for Kevin Coulembier
The International Congress of Basic Science has honoured Kevin Coulembier and co-authors Pavel Etingof and Victor Ostrik for their 2023 paper "On Frobenius exact symmetric tensor categories", judged to be of the highest scientific value and originality and to have made an important impact on Lie Theory and Representation Theory.

Australian Research Council funding for members of the School
The ARC has announced funding commencing in 2024 for eight Discovery Projects with the following members of the School of Mathematics and Statistics as chief investigators: Associate Professor Eduardo Altmann, Associate Professor Alexander Fish, Professor Ben Goldys, Dr Christopher Lustri, Professor Andrew Mathas, Professor Alexander Molev, Associate Professor Pengyi Yang and Professor Dingxuan Zhou. Simons Foundation deal makes Magma widely available in U.S.
An agreement between the Simons Foundation and the Magma Group makes the Magma computational algebra system widely available in the US. See the School's news page for more information.
