Style 3b - Slides only style

Lecturers who will be presenting powerpoint slides can use the whiteboard to add annotations during the presentation. This is suggestively useful as the interaction with the slides can make the session more interactive (especially for answering questions). The presenter is able to use the mimio device on the whiteboard (with the presentation overlayed) and make annotations directly into powerpoint. This will be slower due to the fullscreen polling of the VNC server.

AMX Control Panel
  • For local feedback. From the icons on the top part of panel, choose "Laptop". Choose the external display that the slides would be shown on e.g. "Diagonal".
Mac Mini (GridLect)
  • Display settings:
    1. Right click on desktop and select "Screen resolution"
    2. Ensure that the Duplicating displays is used.
  • TightVNC
    • If the machine has been rebooted the server must be initialised manually. From start menu navigate and choose "Launch Tight VNC server".
    • An icon in the taskbar should appear to indicate it is running (may have to click little arrow next to time).
    • Change the polling behaviour to full screen:
      • Right click on the "V" icon and goto "Properties"
      • Select the "Hooks" tab
      • Check the box "Poll full screen"
      • Use Polling cycle "300"
    • To check if the server is running use another machine to connect. The IP of gridlect is gridlect.maths.usyd.edu.au or 129.78.68.239. Viewonly password is "mathconf"
  • Microsoft Powerpoint 2007
  1. The presenter will be providing a powerpoint presentation file.
  2. Open the file in powerpoint
  3. From the menu bar click on the Slideshow tab
  4. Start the presentation
  5. Right click on the screen and select "Pointer Options"
  6. Choose a pen type and color
  7. The presenter can advance slides using right click from the pen to goto next slide.
Whiteboard PC (gridwbrd)
  • Important::Close all windows
  • TightVNC
    • An icon in the taskbar should appear to indicate it is running (may have to click little arrow next to time).

      • Select the "Hooks" tab

      • Use Polling cycle "300"
  • Launch VNC windows
    • Click on the "Tt" icon in the quick launch taskbar. (This is the automatic setup of launching VNC clients).
    • IF it fails, perform the following:
      • An icon on desktop is a saved VNC connection that will have saved settings to view the gridlect PC as viewonly and CoRRE encoding.
      • Open one instance and set this to full screen.
      • To get out of the full screen mode the escape key can be used, but this can only be done via VNC client to this PC.
    • Exit this mode AFTER the lecture using the automated script from the AG machine called: "gridwbrd_shutdown.bat"
Access Grid PC (gridroom)
  • Launch the Access Grid client on main gridroom PC.
  • Join the session "SMS USydney" and always enable "Talk" from RAT window
  • Announce the lecture being delivered and the VNC session details for the whiteboard being "gridwbrd.maths.usyd.edu.au" password "mathconf"
  • After more participents enter, ensure they are able to speak, listen and see the presenter (or you). Use Access Grid RAT controls to adjust microphone, speaker for individual institutions first versus the global setting.

AFTER the session
