The representation type of Hecke algebras of type B

    Friday 22nd June, 12-1pm, Carslaw 159.

An algebra A has finite representation type if there are only a finite number of isomorphism classes of indecomposable A-modules; otherwise, A has infinite representation type. Almost all algebras have infinite representation type; however, determining the representation type of a given algebra is a difficult problem.

In 1992 Katsuhiro Uno determined the representation type of the Iwahori-Hecke algebras of type A. Building on his work Susumu Ariki and I have now classified the representation type of the Iwahori-Hecke algebras of type B. In this talk I will give a survey of the theory from the representation type of algebras and discuss my results with Ariki, culminating with a beautiful combinatorial construction that we used.
