The tensor product of two irreducible finite-dimensional representations of the Lie algebra gl(n) is generally reducible with the multiplicities given by the Littlewood-Richardson rule. However, the tensor product can be irreducible with respect to an extended family of natural operators which form a representation of the Yangian for gl(n). Conditions for irreducibility of multiple tensor products of this kind will be discussed in the talk.
