MaPSS: Maths Postgraduate Seminar Series: Bednarek -- Scalar Curvature in the Kahler-Ricci Flow

Hi everyone,

The next MaPS (the Mathematical Postgraduate Society) Seminar will be on this Tuesday.
Pizza (with vegetarian options) will be provided after.

Alex is a first-year Ph.D. student at the School of Mathematics and Statistics, advised
by Associate Professor Zhou Zhang. Alex’s area of research is geometric analysis,
more precisely, the Kahler-Ricci flow.

Time and date: Tuesday 10 October at 5pm.

Location: Carslaw 173 and online.

Title: Scalar Curvature in the Kahler-Ricci Flow.

Abstract: This talk will begin by introducing Kahler manifolds and some of their basic
properties. We will give a historical introduction to the topic of Kahler-Ricci flow,
discussing Yau’s proof of the Calabi conjecture and the existence of Kahler-Einstein
metrics and H.D. Cao’s use of the Kahler-Ricci flow as an alternate proof of the
conjecture. Then we will examine the flow in a more general setting and analyze results
by Z. Zhang concerning the behaviour of the scalar curvature in the cases of infinite
and finite time singularities.
