Abstract: In this talk, we will discuss the Oseen-Frank and Landau-de Gennes theories for uniaxial nematic liquid crystal flows. Firstly, we prove the smooth convergence of the Ginzburg-Landau approximation to the hydrodynamic flow of the Oseen-Frank energy known as the Ericksen-Leslie system. We then study a limiting problem of the Landau-de Gennes energy via a connection with the Oseen-Frank energy.

This is the first talk in a series.
