SUMS: Gibson -- What is Quantum Computing?

Speaker: Joel Gibson (University of Sydney undergraduate)

What does it mean to be a quantum computer, and just how different is that from being a
classical computer? What are quantum computers made out of? How could I build one? This
talk discusses some of the theory behind quantum systems in order to answer these
questions, and provides an overview of some important algorithms in cryptography, such
as fast factorisation.
