Call out for volunteers & speakers for Maths at the Museum 2026

Are you interested in being part of our annual "Maths at the Museum" event?

Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th March 2026, 12 - 4 pm, Chau Chak Wing Museum

The Sydney Mathematical Research Institute (SMRI) is curating another weekend of activities, talks and other events for International Day of Mathematics 2026! We are currently seeking expressions of interest for volunteers from Mathematics and Statistics to give a few hours of their time towards this interactive public event. Please let us know if you are available to help out as either a speaker or volunteer (details below):

  1. Volunteers for maths craft activities. We will have a range of maths craft activities running on both Saturday and Sunday from 12 - 4 pm. Please fill out our poll to indicate your interest and which times you are available.

  2. Speakers for floor talks. Please see our schedules from National Science Week and Maths at the Museum 2025 for examples- talks should be around 15-20 minutes long, with 10 minutes of question time at the end. Anybody interested in giving a talk should email smri.comms@sydney.edu.au with a proposed title, a blurb and an image or two to promote the talk! Talks are aimed at a general audience, and can be a great way to share your research with the general public, as well as family and friends.

  3. Please let us know if you are interested in volunteering by Tuesday 10th February. For more information or questions, please email Catherine at smri.comms@sydney.edu.au. You do not need to be from USYD, other affiliations are welcome to volunteer and get involved! Please feel free to share with those who may be interested.
